Our Training Philosophy

At Dog Sports Northwest we believe the road to performance and competition must be one which enriches the lives of both the dog and the owner. The world of dog sports is exciting and challenging, one that requires a positive perspective on the ups and downs of training and showing your dog. We strive to continually offer a thorough approach to dog training so that you may navigate that path with confidence and joy!

We also believe dogs and people must be treated with respect and dignity at all times and that humor and fun are not only necessary for an enjoyable learning environment but for optimum learning to take place.

 Are you ready?

Agility is a fun, exciting and rewarding activity.  It is also demanding both physically and mentally and requires time, dedication and commitment.  It is a long journey from the first class you take to the first step you take into the ring and it is our goal to prepare you fully for that first step.  However, we can only do that if you are aware of what is required from you and if you are able to make that commitment.  We present this information not to discourage you from the wonderful world of agility but to help you make this decision armed with as much information as possible.

We would like you to read “Are You Ready?” and answer some questions to determine if this is the right activity for you and your dog.  We believe dogs and handlers must be fully trained for the demands of the sport and are also very aware of what it requires from you, your dog and from us to achieve this goal.  We hope you find the “Are You Ready” page a valuable aid in deciding if agility is the right activity for you and your dog!

If upon reading “Are You Ready?” you decide you are ready for agility training please read “What We Believe About Teaching and Learning”.  Here you will learn more about how we teach and what we would you to know about us before deciding our classes are the right choice for you. Here you will learn more about how we teach and what we ask of our students.  We hope this will help you decide if our program is the right choice for you.  Thank you again for taking the time to consider this information and we sincerely hope it will help you choose the best journey for you and your dog!
